Why Where I Want To Be by Donell Jones is Rude
Updated: Oct 14, 2018
When I was little (seven or eight) I used to love Where I Want To Be x Donell Jones. Of course then I was young, dumb and wasn't experienced in love or life. Fast forward to my adulthood every time that song plays on my playlist or I hear it on the radio I just shake my head and think about how problematic and disrespectful this song is and further proves my point about how men feel like they can have their cake and eat it too.
I said, "I left my baby girl a message Sayin' won't be coming home, I'd rather be alone" She doesn't fully understand me That I'd rather leave than to cheat "If she'll give me some time I can be the man she needs But there's a lot of lust inside of me And we've been together since our teenage years I really don't mean to hurt her but I need some time to be alone"
Since I always give credit when its due, I'll start by saying that I agree with his choice to breakup with his girlfriend because he knew that there is a strong possibility she could get hurt due to his infidelities. However, I also see it from the girlfriends point of view. You have been holding this man down then one day he decides that he wants to leave so he can sow his wild oats. I also hate the fact that he left a voicemail. In what world did he think that was okay to do? You don't leave voicemails like that, you either talk about it face to face or over the phone.
But when you love someone, you just don't treat them bad Oh, how I feel so sad now that I wanna leave She's crying her heart to me, "How could you let this be?" I just need time to see where I wanna be, where I wanna be
Sweet little dee-do-dee-dee I don't mean to hurt you, baby, oh no, no
This man knows that he is dead wrong. You can put all your time, energy, and effort into a man but he will leave you at the drop of a dime.
Never did I imagine that you would play a major part In a decision that's so hard Do I leave? Do I stay? Do I go? I think about my life and what matters to me the most
Girl, the love that we share is real But in time your heart will heal I'm not saying I'm gone but I Have to find what life is like without you"
I hate this verse so much. How dare he sit there and tell that girl, yes I love you, yes you love me but were over you will be okay! I feel bad for this girl he is singing about. I know first hand that it isn't easy getting over someone you love. They probably planned there life together then he basically tells her oh well its life, you will get over it. Then if thats wasn't bad enough he goes on to tell her Im going to explore my options but if they don't work Im coming back home to you.
Men always want to have their cake and eat it too thats why if I ever have a daughter I will teach her that a man is not guaranteed. I will tell her to focus on her dreams and goals and don't give them up for any man. They lie, cheat and leave so she needs to make sure that her life is together. Anyway this is all just my opinion. You can check out the song below and tell me how you feel about it.
