KTSU Host Brunch & Praise: Kurt Carr Edition

Houston's community station KTSU 90.9 kicked off its first annual Brunch and Praise event by celebrating gospel legend, Kurt Carr and the release of his latest project, "Bless Somebody Else." The brunch, catered by Alfreda's Soul Food, was held inside of the radio station. Guests fellowshipped with each other as they enjoyed a variety of breakfast foods which included: pancakes, grits, potatoes, and omelets. Shortly after, guests were escorted to the studio for a special live performance from Kurt Carr and The Kurt Carr singers!

Carr describes his second album, which features 16 tracks as, "God's work today." The title and theme of the album, "Bless Somebody Else" are simply about being a blessing to others. Carr recalls a time when a hotel worker went out of her way to be a blessing to him.

"Recently, I was at a hotel and I left a piece of paper. I had written an important attorney's name and number on the sheet of paper. I was getting ready to drive off when the housekeeper ran down four flights of stairs and into the lobby saying, "sir, you left this paper, you might need it."

"It was such a small gesture but it really blessed me. A few days later I was in that area so, I went back to the hotel, found out how she made that day and I blessed her with that. She cried and said that she needed the blessing so much. When we open up our hearts to bless others, it somehow meets them right where they need it and it always comes back to us."

The impact of the woman's kindness coupled with the desire to encourage others to pay it forward inspired Carr to start his viral #BlessSomebodyElseChallenge.

"I did a challenge for singers to sing because I'm blessed but also a challenge for people to find a way to be a blessing to someone else."

Although Carr doesn't have a favorite song from the album, Carr says the song "Blessing After Blessing" was written after Hurricane Harvey.

" I was doing ministry at The Fountain Of Praise and I was thinking, how do you minister to a congregation when half of them lost everything and the other half is worshiping because they didn't lose everything. I realized that the common denominator is that no matter what we are going through, we are all blessed. That's when I started writing Lord, you just keep sending blessing after blessing after blessing."
