Houston’s finest showed up and showed out at Grooves of Houston nightclub on Saturday night, June 29, 2019 to help KTSU celebrate 48 years of service to the community. The night was filled with glitz and glam, line dancing, and of course great music!
In a statement, KTSU’s General Manager, Ernest Walker says that his desire for KTSU is to continue creating change that inspires people in the community and around the world.
“My passion and my hope for KTSU is that we keep making an impact on our community, education, quality programming, community outreach and continue to grow, not just in Houston, but around the world.”
KTSU was founded on June 23, 1972. after Texas Southern University filed an application to establish an educational FM radio station on the campus to provide an environment for students to be trained and well versed in the field of radio. KTSU’s mission is to implement partnerships with community organizations to advance and enrich the cultural life of metropolitan Houston, promote the resources and services of Texas Southern University and provide positive images of the university with the programming of the highest quality. KTSU is committed to maintaining the highest standards of excellence in the community that it serves, the broadcast industry and to serve as a conduit for news and public affairs information.
Staying true to her journalism roots, former Fox 26 news anchor, Melinda Spaulding, who is now the VP of University Advancement for Texas Southern University says that her favorite part of KTSU's programming is the "student news update at the top of the hour."
Spaulding feels that KTSU allowing students to get the hands-on experience needed to help them succeed in the real world is a huge assistance in cultivating future talent in the broadcast industry.
